About Alexandra Ranieri, PT, DPT, OCS
When it comes to understanding sports and injuries, Alexandra has firsthand knowledge. She knows what it takes to overcome setbacks and the tenacity and determination to compete again.
As a competitive swimmer in college, Alexandra had two shoulder surgeries and, as a result, has the unique perspective as what it is to be both a patient, eager to recover, and a therapist. During her time at New York Medical College, Alex successfully completed two half marathons and applied herself to her studies. It was during those training runs that she brought what she learned in the classroom and applied it to ‘real life.’ Since then Alex has gone on to treat professional athletes, Olympic athletes, weekend warriors and patients suffering from arthritis and recuperating from joint replacements.
Alexandra Ranieri, PT, DPT, OCS, is the founder of Oss Sports Physical Therapy. She graduated with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from New York Medical College. Her undergraduate studies were completed at Goucher College to which she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. In 2018, Alexandra was awarded her OCS, Orthopaedic Board Certified Specialist. There are only a small number of Physical Therapists in the state of Connecticut with this distinction.
With more than ten years of experience honing her skills in physical therapy at Performance Physical Therapy and Orthopedic and Neurosurgeons (ONS), Alexandra recently decided to establish her own private practice. A new practitioner of jiujitsu, she became aware of the word Oss derived from Japanese Martial Arts. It has many origins but what resonated with her was ‘ossu’ which conveys the idea of ‘persevering when pushed.’ In other words, never give up, have determination, grit and withstand the most arduous of training. She applies these principals to her patients and works with them to get better through hard work and determination.
When not treating patients, in addition to jujitsu, Alex enjoys rock and wall climbing, yoga, and running. Swimming is still one of her passions and she enjoyed working with the Chelsea Aquatic Club, developing a shoulder injury prevention program.
To round out her outdoor activities, she enjoys listening to music and reading. She has lived in the Greenwich/Stamford area for the past 10 years.
